What Is a Chauffeur Service? How It Works and What It Costs
How a chauffeur service works, how it differs from a taxi or rideshare, the main types of service and what it costs in Boston.

A chauffeur service is a reserved, professionally driven car: you book ahead, a chauffeur picks you up at a set time and place, and the vehicle is yours alone for the trip or for the hours you book. It differs from a taxi or rideshare because it is arranged in advance, priced up front, and planned around your schedule. That includes tracking your flight and waiting at the airport. Common uses are airport transfers, business days with several meetings, events and trips between cities.
- What it is
- A pre-booked private car with a professional chauffeur, for one trip or by the hour.
- How it is priced
- One-way rates for transfers, or an hourly rate with a minimum. At Mak Louren in Boston: $100 per hour for a sedan and $125 for an SUV, 3-hour minimum.1
- Who uses it
- Business travelers, executive assistants booking for others, families with luggage, wedding parties and event guests.
